BCIC has an opening for a Web Specialist - a keen and resourceful marketing generalist and creative thinker with interests in technology and innovation. The successful applicant will have demonstrated skills in online content management, graphic design, social media, writing and so much more!
JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBLITIES:
• Works closely with team members to support the delivery and promotion of BCIC programs and initiatives and those of BCIC’s partner industry associations, universities and regional science and technology councils.
• Promotes, designs and implements ongoing enhancements to BCIC’s websites and online strategy, including site optimization, SEO strategies and analytics.
• Responsible for maintaining multiple websites and overseeing the management of third-party IT teams.
• Creates and distributes monthly e-newsletters and email blasts.
• Provides major event support in areas including logistics, registration, ticketing and budgeting.
• Manages the creation of videos and edits videos for online and social media marketing.
• Edits and proofreads communications plans, media materials, website content, collateral, etc.
• Performs writing duties (i.e. newsletters, websites, blog posts and other social media channels).
• Media and social media monitoring: tracks and evaluates communication initiatives including tweets, blogs and print media clippings for all matters relating to BCIC programs and activities, as well as areas of interest pertaining to the science and technology community.
• Designs and oversees the production of brochures, reports, ads, etc. using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Posts updates to Twitter, blog, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube accounts.
• Other project management duties and research and marketing tasks as required.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum three years of related marketing, website and design work experience.
• Has excellent verbal, written communication and research skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with IT and business units at all levels across the organization (management, end-users, project teams, etc.)
• HTML skills, as well proficiency in common web languages (HTML, CSS and RSS), content management systems (Drupal, Joomla) and web authoring software (Dreamweaver).
• Experience maintaining websites and building online communities.
• Familiar with search engine optimization, analytics and best practices.
• Solid experience using Adobe CS3 Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
• Information and layout design experience.
• Familiarity navigating and communicating in the social media universe, particularly with blogs, forums, Twitter, YouTube, Delicious, Flickr, etc.
• Event experience an asset (ranges from coordinating speaking opportunities to tradeshow participation to networking conferences).
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, capacity to multi-task and work under deadlines with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Must be comfortable with or willing to learn new technologies and social applications.
• Knowledge of video production and editing a plus.
• Degree preferred in marketing, communications or information technology.
