website designer for www.bestirarescue.com (greater vancouver - lower mainland)

Posted: 15 Oct 2009 08:06 AM PDT

Seeking a web designer for the site http://BestIRARescue.com.

- we're looking for perhaps a new logo with a new colour scheme. We're open to proposals.
- the web designer will have to work well with me as I code it so that it's optimized for the search engines.
- the layout and structure should be retained and not changed. The layout and structure meaning the top header, the left column, middle column and footer.
- there could be some flash (if you know it); however, it has to be used sparingly.
- Please send your portfolio of past work or school work. If you have a website please send it.
- Please send me your rate of pay and perhaps a general expectation of pay.
- It would be helpful to know html, css so you have an understanding of the underlying coding requirements but it's not mandatory. We're looking more for a designer than a programmer right now.

You can work from home and on your spare time. There is no absolute set deadline; however, there is a reasonable expectation of time completion of this project. For example, if you state a two-week deadline then that would be the expectation.

You should be someone local in the Greater Vancouver or Lower Mainland area.

Please send your resume and respect the no phone call policy.

Thank you,
Victor Kimura

Re: INTERFACE EXPRESS BRANDING (NORTH VANCOUVER)

Posted: 15 Oct 2009 02:58 AM PDT

Original Request:

REAL ESTATE AGENT NEEDS WEBMASTER TO SET UP INTERFACE EXPRESS FOR MY CLIENTS....PLEASE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS AND HOW MUCH YOUR ASKING PER HOUR.....

And my thoughts...

Well firstly I haven't the foggiest idea what Interface Express Branding is. Do you? Could you explain it a little? Actually I'm being too polite, please explain it a lot because no professional is going to quote based on such vague requirements, especially if they don't understand what you mean.

While we're at it, how much you charge me for finding me dream home? I need a fixed commission quote. I'll tell you what i like and what I need after you agree to a set commission.

re: UI Designer for my site (Not anywhere on earth)

Posted: 15 Oct 2009 02:52 AM PDT

[original message at end]

This place never fails to amaze me. Your post is offensive and only a marginal improvement on the one where you expect someone to work for free with the possibility of shares in your 'idea', which I dutifully flagged.

Now to its replacement... you're asking for someone with a multitude of skills but write it in a way to suggest that someone could just 'knock this together' in 5 minutes or so. You need a UI designer plus a graphic designer (rarely the same) plus a copywriter. All 3 are highly skilled areas and almost never do you get someone with adequate skills in all areas, although there's many that think they have.

Unfortunately yours isn't the only post that really stoops the whole profession to the gutter. At this kind of rate you'll end up with a complete clown at best who'll do a terrible job because they won't know what they're doing. You might then be tempted to think that UI designers are all like this. I have a PhD in psychology and 20 years' experience. Posts like this sicken me as being recognized for the expert that I am is more and more difficult in Vancouver thanks to bait ads like this and the complete time wasters that you're going to attract. Believe me, for a couple hundred bucks you may as well do it yourself as you're probably way more skilled than anyone who would respond at this rate. Seriously!

I won't bother flagging your post as I think it's important for others to pass their comments too. At least you're now offering marginal compensation. Oh I just noticed you want examples of people's work. That's about as safe as credit card companies thinking that a card was secure by virtue of having a signature on the back panel.

Good luck though.
-------------
I need someone to design a user friendly & professional user interface for my site. I'm personally doing all the back end programming and just need some one for the front end. You would be required to make a page template and add some graphics as well as write up some content / text on different pages.

Please don't send me your resume, just send me a few examples of you work. For example, just 4 or 5 links would be fine.

The compensation is negotiable, but for now, I'm going to say $200.

I'm a physically disabled mom with a one-year old baby. I want to be completely involved in my son's care, however, I need help to do this because of my physical limitations.

Renovation Carpentry (Van and area)

Posted: 14 Oct 2009 11:41 PM PDT

It seems as though some "people" are annoyed with my (following) ad. For those who are, please read no further. For those who actually understand WHAT is being said, please continue.

Residential renovation carpenter position available.
I'm the boss. It's my company and my name on the line. That's the honesty (and arrogance) of the deal. We do single family, residential renovations, repairs and restoration. 90% of our work is engineering ourselves out of a corner and the other 10% is what they teach in school. We are referral based only - which means that all of our client's are our business card for new clients. We're not the cheapest, but we are the best at selling service. It's our attitude that get's the next job and makes the current job go smoothly.
Ok. So enough of that. You need to have knowledge in ALL aspects of the renovation world. You don't have to be a master at all of them, but if you know the last guy's job, then you'll know that he's done - and you can proceed. If you know the next guy's job, then you'll know how he likes it and what is expected. This is important because you may be the one who has to do either of those. Some days we're drywallers, and some days we're roofers. Sometimes we get nice finishing jobs, and sometimes we get to bend nails. So.... send me a resume and I'll contact you if my gut tells me so. Don't send me one if you're looking to start in this business - I don't have the time or patience to teach you the job. If you think that this is a job, then please keep looking elsewhere. If you wake up in the morning as a tradesman (or woman) and think that this is a career or lifestyle, then we need to meet.
Oh yeah. PAY. Everyone needs to be paid. The short on that one is this; I believe that everyone is worth what they put out. If you like to keep your hands warm in your pockets and wait to be told what to do - keep looking elsewhere. If you know what it is to get moving and predict what's next (and next and next) and get it done, then you're worth a lot more. I haven't made up my mind if I'm looking to "employ" someone (payroll deductions etc), or let you be a sub (if you're set up as such), so let me know of your preference and / or pay expectation (that'll tell me a lot about you).
One last thing; I'm arrogant because of my confidence and competence. Don't take it personally. I'll be honest and fair with you. I only need you to be the same. Your job is simply to replace me. That's it.
