Operations Accountant (Vancouver, BC)

Our client has an opportunity available for an experienced Operations Accountant in their Vancouver,BC office.








Job Description:





Reporting to the Regional Operations Controller, the Operations Accountant determines, implements and maintains project accounting procedures and methods, to ensure relevant, accurate, timely and reliable project cost information in accordance with company policies and procedures.








Key Responsibilities





Direct, monitor, train and evaluate the activities of some or all of the accounts payable and general accounting staff at the Branch or Site level.


Recruit, direct, mentor and supervise branch and/or site accounting employees.


Direct, monitor and evaluate the activities of the accounts receivable collections.


Performance of, or responsible for performance of Subtrade administration.


Examine and review project cost reports to ensure cost data is allocated accurately to projects.


Coordinate branch and site accounting systems and procedures in accordance with company policy and implement directed changes as required.


Prepare weekly cash flow report for corporate review.


Collaborate with and advise project managers regarding accounts receivable set up for new projects as well as job costing, job set up and troubleshooting.


Review owner progress billings to ensure all costs billed, with time and material invoicing correct and balanced to reports, with change orders properly entered and invoiced in accordance with the contract.


Review changes made to costing due to errors or owner required changes for use in LEM’s or owner billings.


Prepare accounts receivable, subtrade and change order reconciliations as required by project managers, financial accounting and owners.


Co-ordinate disbursements of company funds in compliance with contract terms and company policy.


Perform edits in CGC, verifying correctness of data.


Assist operations staff with compilation of cost information to aid in job cost forecasting.


Monitor corporate policy and controls at the branch or site level.


Miscellaneous duties as assigned.





Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications;








Education:





Bachelors degree in Business preferred.








Experience:





Previous experience in the construction industry is required.


Minimum of two year’s general accounting experience and one year in a supervisory role.


Participatory management and administrative skills, with proven ability to train and motivate personnel.





Desired Skills:





Highly motivated with strong analytical abilities. Resourceful, hard working and detail oriented.


Strong management accounting, including large project cost accounting Good oral and written communications skills.


Well-developed participatory management and administrative skills, with proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel.


Ability to communicate effectively with clients and customers.


Strong Leadership ability with high professional standard and work ethic.


Knowledge of integrated financial and management/cost accounting computer systems, preferably in a construction environment.


Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
