Join the BBN3 team! We are looking for an Assignment Desk Editor








Broadband Network 3 (BBN3) is the first national and international network delivering quality controlled, user-produced content created by semi-professional video journalists (VJs).


The network is organized through a virtual Video Journalism Assignment Desk, which is designed to identify, aggregate, organize and manage aspiring and talented VJs in communities as a way to create an ever-improving and valuable content engine. As participants in the network’s Video Journalism Program, VJs receive credentialed media access, paid assignments, mentorship, guidance, and the continuing education required to produce vital, relevant, and authentic, video journalism.

The Job


We are looking for a hyper organized, outgoing Assignment Desk Editor who supports and mentors VJ’s through the video production process from development to the final upload of their video journalism segments. This process happens through the virtual Assignment Desk so written communication skills are necessary.





Duties


- Approving assignment applications and suggestions from VJ’s


- Working through the pre-production process with VJ’s (developing a story angle, shot list, interview questions, etc)


- Final approval or rejection (with feedback) of video uploads


- Providing creative and technical support to VJ’s at different levels and stages of assignment development.


- Identifying and promoting skilled VJ’s


- Working with other members of the Assignment Desk team





Necessary experience and Qualifications


- Candidates must have a video production background (including pre-production planning and post-production editing skills).


- A Journalism background is an advantage as the position requires the ability to ensure VJ’s and assignments follow journalistic ideals and practices.


- Demonstrated story development abilities in previous positions are also a requirement.


- Project management and process management experience


-A post-secondary degree





Required Skills


-Ability to troubleshoot and fix problems remotely


-Ability to collaborate remotely with VJ’s (written communication skills)


-Ability to multi-task and work on a number of creative projects simultaneously


-Strong understanding of the video journalism medium





Ideal candidates will be:

-An expert in understanding visual story-telling and the pre-production process


-A problem solver and multi-tasker





Candidate must be comfortable working over email, phone, and Skype as our VJs and are spread across North America.
