Accountant (UBC Campus)

Vancouver School of Theology, an independent graduate school on the Campus of the University of British Columbia, is seeking an experienced Accountant. This position is critical in supporting management decision-making and business operations through effective full cycle accounting and reporting. The position is “hands-on” with regard to the day-to-day operations, general ledger, accounts payable, month-end adjustments and contributions in year-end document preparation.





Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant’s duties include:


• general accounting and full accounts payable


• managing bank accounts, credit card & general ledger and intercompany reconciliations


• ensuring compliance of fiscal and legal obligations (PST, GST, WCB, income tax, payroll forms and reports)


• forecasting and managing cash flow


• processing payroll (Ceridian), managing benefits


• participating in financial statement preparation


• supervising accounts receivable transactions.





Requirements:





The ideal candidate has an accounting education (such as a degree or diploma in Accounting) and at least 5 years experience. Work experience in a not-for-profit educational institution is desirable. As an experienced Accountant, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge and competence in all aspects of accounting and reporting.





Knowledge and practical experience in ACCPAC and Ceridian are crucial. Strong computer literacy and Excel skills are required.





Solid communication and analytical skills and a professional work ethic are essential.
