The overall function of the Senior Accountant is to support the Financial Department with emphasis on accounting for challenging and complex issues such as inter-company transactions, foreign exchange translations, consolidations, and tax compliance matters. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for timely preparation of monthly reporting package as well as creating working papers and audit trails to ensure accuracy of financial reporting. Other responsibilities include initiating and managing necessary changes in internal control procedures to safeguard assets and timely settlement of liabilities, and ensuring reporting are current to reflect changes to corporate structure and agreements. This position is for a maternity leave contract with an end date of December 31, 2010.
Responsibilities:
Timely delivery of monthly reporting package
Manage staff: Accountant I and Accountant II
Identify weaknesses in internal controls and propose solutions in a timely manner. Implement approved solutions as planned.
Update, review and manage general ledger and sub-ledgers as needed with focus on inter-company transactions, consolidations, foreign exchange and tax compliance.
Ensure the integrity and completeness of accounting data from sub-ledgers to general ledger while dealing with foreign accounting issues and inter-company transactions
Review or prepare monthly reconciliation working papers
Oversee processing of financial information to ensure financial and system controls are maintained
Reviewing and preparing year end working paper and lead sheets for the group of companies
Primary liaison for the preparation of annual audited Financial Statements
Performing special projects as may be required.
Qualifications:
Professional accounting designation
Minimum 5 years full cycle accounting experience preferably with some spend in a public accounting environment
Strong technical skills in Canadian GAAP. Experience with IFRS preferred
Must have experience with foreign currency transactions, foreign currency translation and consolidations
Exposure to international tax structure and transferred pricing preferred
Proactive problem solver
Positive and motivated individual that enjoys working in a challenging and dynamic environment.
Advanced skills in spreadsheets are necessary
Experience with Peoplesoft Financial, Great Plains and FRx Report Designer highly desirable
Detail oriented, and enjoys working in a team environment
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
